Unusual Stencil

This message was stenciled on a box below an electric meter. I spotted it as I was leaving skilled nursing facility where my mother is undergoing treatment.

Cheerful Patient

My mom is 84-years old, but she still has a positive outlook. She fell and fractured her hip, but she still is telling everyone how much God has blessed her.

Sister & Brother

This little girl adores her baby brother, but she also likes to pester him by climbing into his stroller and pulling his feet, etc.

Santa Barbara & San Nicolas Islands

San Nicolas Island is about 72 miles from here. We can see it with our naked eyes only during the winter-- partly because of where the sun sets and partly because of the lack of haze in the sky. It is the very low profile to the left of Santa Barbara Island.

She needs a mirror!

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this woman waiting at LAX. I'm sure she hasn't looked in the mirror at the back of her.

Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time!

A float broke down on the parade route. As a result the Salvation Army band was stopped right in front of our grandstand for about fifteen minutes. One participant decided to rest her weary feet. The women sitting around me all decided that she, unlike the other women, had decided to wear her "cute" heels instead of the more practical ones. We think she might have had second thoughts, especially since she had another couple of miles to walk before the six-mile route ended.

Tournament of Roses Parade 2010

We traveled by car from RPV to Long Beach and then took Metro Rail all the way to Pasadena to the 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade. All of the floats are covered completely with plant parts-- petals, seeds, bark, leaves, etc. It's an amazing parade. The route is six miles long. Check back in two days for an amusing view of one participant.

New Year's Day, 2010!

This is the lovely sunset that we had last night. The island in the distance is Santa Barbara-- not the city, but one of the Channel Islands
