This news truck, from two different television stations, was covering the discovery of a murder victim in here on the coast in RPV.

Construction in RPV

These trucks are part of a construction crew that is making a huge drainage device to maintain the hillside, I think.

Litter Birds-- Not Litter Bugs

These birds were having fun trash digging. They'd made quite a mess on the walking path above the Trump National Golf Course.

Traffic Congestion on PV Drive East

This construction vehicle brought the downhill traffic to a crawl on our two-lane road with switchbacks.

Hummingbird at Dinner Time

Contrary to the common opinion, hummingbirds do perch-- sometimes for quite a while. This one sat here for seven minutes, flew away, and then came back to sit a while longer.

This pretty planting is one of many at Marmalade Cafe.

1956 Thunderbird

One of the great things about having no snow is that cars last longer. The absence of salt on the roads during the winter contributes to the undercarriage of our cars not rusting like they do in some other places.

Three Friends

These baseball players were hanging out a few feet from where I took yesterday's picture. I teased them about being a long way from a baseball diamond. They were happy to pose for this picture. They'd won their game earlier in the day.

Bridge at the Willmington Waterfront Park

This biking-path bridge echoes the rigging of a ship. It's right across from the Port of Los Angeles.

Wilmington Waterfront Park

Here's a picture of the newly-opened park. It has a great view of the container ship facility, wide playing fields, and a bike path.

Mom's Birthday

My mother turned 86 today and celebrated with her church family. She is a Seventh-day Adventist and attends church on Saturday. She's the official grandmother of a congregation that is English-speaking, but also has a large number of Spanish speakers. She doesn't speak Spanish, but is well-loved by everyone anyway.

Moon Rise over the Pacific Ocean

I almost got a ticket trying to get this photo. I stopped at the entrance to the archery range on Palos Verdes Drive South. The sheriff came along, pulled up behind me with his lights flashing, and got out of the car. After asking me if there was a problem, he informed me that this was a no parking area at all times. Fortunately, he let me get into my car and drive away. The picture was worth the scare, though.

Dudamel and Lang Lang at the Hollywood Bowl

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and pianist Lang Lang provided a wonderful concert of Russian music at the Hollywood Bowl. They're performing the same concert tonight. A group of us from Rancho Palos Verdes went there by bus on Tuesday.

Heirloom Tomatoes

Vine-ripened tomatoes are one of the best things to eat in the summer.

I love the kettle corn that's prepared at our local Farmers' Market.
