I heard a news story yesterday about a small red beetle that is eating the palm trees of Rome and other Italian cities. Apparently, instead of importing small, immature trees the Italians started importing more mature trees. Unfortunately, many of the infested with this small insects that kills the palms when its larvae eat out the inside. I'm glad that our palms don't have that problem-- yet. The pine trees of our local mountains have been devastated by a bark beetle, though.
