This new luxury resort is having financial troubles. Our city council rescinded its arrangement with it just this week.

Hurrah for the Coastal Commission

This part of the Terranea resort used to be used by the public when this land was Marineland of the Pacific.  Fortunately, it still is!

Resort Pool

Terranea, the new resort in RPV, has bungalows and villas in addition to hotel rooms and the ordinary resort features-- pools, a spa, restaurants, and ballrooms.  Their grand ballroom holds 1182 people and is reported to be the largest in Los Angeles County.  Because of the California Coastal Commission requirements, there is also a public path to the beach and  a public parking lot.

Seagull Abatement

This African Auger Hawk is being used for seagull abatement at the new Terranea Resort.  He doesn't chase them-- just his presence as one of their predators is enough to keep them from making this expensive resort their home.  His keeper lets him fly away when his weight drops by twenty ounces-- she weighs him periodically throughout the day.  He only comes back to her to secure food.  He associates her leather glove with food.  He has beautiful brown tail feathers.
