Seagull Abatement

This African Auger Hawk is being used for seagull abatement at the new Terranea Resort.  He doesn't chase them-- just his presence as one of their predators is enough to keep them from making this expensive resort their home.  His keeper lets him fly away when his weight drops by twenty ounces-- she weighs him periodically throughout the day.  He only comes back to her to secure food.  He associates her leather glove with food.  He has beautiful brown tail feathers.

That is so funny: "Seagull Abatement." What a great post. I've never heard the term before but gulls can be terrific pests and this appears to be an effective way to keep them away!

Nice photos!
