It always amazes me that this type of sign is necessary. In spite of the signs, though, I often people on the other side of the fence.

Signs are funny. But they seem to always apply to the "other" person. It's like all the warning signs on the various products we buy: This can of sardines is very salty, do not stick up your nose!
