Los Verdes Golf Course-- empty? nope!

This is a public, low-cost golf course in RPV not quite empty of golfers.

These hearing children are singing and using sign language, too.

Patio Bonfire

Last night the wind was calm so we had a quiet bonfire to burn up some scrap wood that was attracting bugs and raccoons.

This is the view looking east at the public beach at Terranea.

Hurrah for the Coastal Commission

This part of the Terranea resort used to be used by the public when this land was Marineland of the Pacific.  Fortunately, it still is!

Resort Pool

Terranea, the new resort in RPV, has bungalows and villas in addition to hotel rooms and the ordinary resort features-- pools, a spa, restaurants, and ballrooms.  Their grand ballroom holds 1182 people and is reported to be the largest in Los Angeles County.  Because of the California Coastal Commission requirements, there is also a public path to the beach and  a public parking lot.

Seagull Abatement

This African Auger Hawk is being used for seagull abatement at the new Terranea Resort.  He doesn't chase them-- just his presence as one of their predators is enough to keep them from making this expensive resort their home.  His keeper lets him fly away when his weight drops by twenty ounces-- she weighs him periodically throughout the day.  He only comes back to her to secure food.  He associates her leather glove with food.  He has beautiful brown tail feathers.

We passed a very large crowd of protesters in front the U.S. Federal Building in Westwood tonight.

Almost Four Weeks Old!

This new baby at my church was fascinating to the other pre-school age children.

Road-side View of Terranea

Terranea is the new resort that just opened in our city.  There's a hotel plus homes that start at $2 million.  This picture was taken from the road.  I'll show some closer views next week.

Used Pets

This sign was used at the street fair to advertise the cute puppies and kittens that needed new homes.

Hang Glider

There's a good launching place for hang gliders adjacent to the Trump National Golf Course.  They glide over the ocean above the cliffs.  It looks like a lot of fun.

Glamour Dog

These dog and owner were enjoying the street fair, too.  Don't you love the "shades?"

Street Fair Food in CA, not Turkey

Last Sunday was the local street fair.  There were many food options including this one.  We also had delicious roasted corn on the cob.

Graduation

Commencement for the high school where I teach was last night.  We graduated about 750 students.  The groups I photographed were my students two years ago.  They're wearing gold stoles and medallions to show their status as honor students.

Lane Victory & Crane

The WWII merchant ship, Lane Victory, is in the foreground with a crane in the background.  I like the triangles that are formed by the masts and other structures.

Tangine Dishes

These Moroccan cooking dishes are used to make tangines-- a dish with vegetables (and sometimes meat) traditionally cooked over a flame and seasoned withe salted lemons.  My daughter hand-carried hers and mine home on the plane to California.

Disney Hall

I love the lines of Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles.

Strong Opinions

These signs adjacent to the parking area overlooking the golf course and ocean tell us a little about these people's views.  I wish I knew more about the individuals, though.  Who did the graffiti? Does the "electric car" person drive a Prius? Is the Kings fan a different person?  Are any of these people handicapped? Questions, questions,  questions?

Saturday's View

The wind blew the clouds away from land so that we had a lovely view of Catalina Saturday afternoon.

June Jacaranda

This is the same tree that I photographed on May 8.  It's finally blossomed out.

Unusual Clouds

Although rain is common in many parts of the world during the first of June, it's quite an anomaly here in Rancho Palos Verdes.  We have had some very unusual cloud formations, too.

Flip Flop Feet at Work

"Never let your footwear keep you from digging in dirt!"  That's one of my grandson's mottos.

Unexpected Rain!

We had quite a sudden downpour this afternoon.  If you look closely, you can see that one section of the pavement remained dry because the tree caught all of the water.
